Named for the snowy owl, a bird long associated with the wisdom of the elders, stepping into your own power and good fortune, this little teapot is an emblem of the same.

Masterfully made of high iron stoneware in the Czech Republic, it was wood-fired to 1280 degrees C. The outside was glazed with kaolin engobe and feldspar glaze. The inside was left unglazed to allow the pot to retain the flavor of the tea, making each subsequent steep more flavorful than the last.

The White Owl pot is ideal for a solo session or up to 3 guests paired with our Heaven and Earth Teacups or our Five Wishes Teacups or our Seven Wishes Teacups.

Gongfu steeping: This is session steeping, for the purpose of spending time in the rhythm of the practice, the medicine in the leaf and the connection found in the alchemy of earth, water, wind & fire. When compared to the British steeping style, a large amount of tea its steeped in a small teapot for a short amount of time in the Gongfu style. The same tea leaves are steeped over and over again, up to 10 times or more.

First, rinse the pot and teaware to clean and warm them. Discard water into a water catching bowl. Then, place a Tablespoon of tea in the pot. Rinse the leaves, giving them a quick hot water bath to wake them up for steeping. Pour the remaining liquid into your water catching bowl. Now, pour hot water over the leaves and steep for 20 seconds or so, depending on the tea. Decant the tea into little cups and sip the tea while it is piping hot.

Every tea lover knows that the masters work is evident in the pour of the tea from the spout, the feel of the bowl in your hands, the weight of the clay and all of the ineffable details of craftsmanship that make a piece sing. This piece is an embodiment of such mastery.
