Wood Dragon

I am pleased to share with you Wood Dragon, a phenomenally powerful, grounding Golden Needle style black tea (known as “red tea” in China) from 400 year old tea tress in Yunnan, China, the birthplace of tea. I have been drinking it daily and love its intense vibrancy, rich complexity and calming strength. This is one not to miss, wheter for casual or ceremonial steeping.

The Chinese New Year on February 10th in 2024 ushers in the Year of the Wood Dragon. Dragon years, like Dragon people (those born in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940 and 1928) are said to be powerful, prosperous, intelligent, creative and inspiring. I have heard that fertility clinics in China book out early for making dragon babies, as they are known to be natural leaders!

The wood element brings flexibility, renewal and growth to the strength of the dragon year, making 2024 one for starting new projects with long-term success for everyone.

Just like Water Rabbit for 2023, this year’s tea was sourced with the intention of offering a tea with an energy, or chi, to embody the essence of the new year. 

STEEPING SUGGESTIONS:

CASUAL: Place just 4-5 leaves in a tea pot or a mug. Add one cup of almost boiling water to the pot and allow the leaves to steep as you sip. Add more water as you like. Makes 3-4 infusions.

CEREMONIAL/ SESSION STEEPING: Place 10 leaves per person in a teapot. Pour hot water over the leaves to rinse. Discard the rinse water. Fill the pot with about 1/4 cup of water per person and steep for 5-10 seconds per infusion. Makes 10-12 infusions.
