Water Catching Bowl/ Jian Shui
Water Catching Bowl/ Jian Shui
A water catching bowl (jian shui) is used in a dry tea ceremony (as opposed to a wet tea ceremony where the water is poured freely over the pot and leaves and then caught in a tray under the tea table) to hold the water from the rinsing of the tea leaves. These ones were hand-formed and wood-fired for use in Tea Ceremony by my friend, Mirka, in the Czech Republic.
There is something about the presence of these dark and heavy bowls that ground the energy of the ceremony. They bring a weight and a stillness to the experience that assist in deepening the meditation. They resonate with an essence of the connection that is created.
Approximate sizes:
LARGE: 3.5” tall, 5”diameter, holds 4 cups/ 32 ounces of water $225.
SMALL: 3” tall, 4.5” diameter, holds 2.5 cups/ 20 ounces of water. $175
